Already have a homestead exemption?
You can still check age 65, disability, or disabled-veteran eligibility. An exemption on the public record does not tell us when you first qualified or whether every benefit is in place.
What documents will I need?
Usually your Texas driver’s license or state ID with the property address. Disability and veteran claims need supporting benefit documents. The wizard gives you a checklist, and you can save and return. Address exceptions receive individual review.
Can I recover taxes from earlier years?
Possibly. Eligibility dates, exemptions already granted, and filing deadlines determine which years can be claimed. We review prior years individually; no refund is guaranteed.
What if I am not sure which exemption fits?
Start with your property and answer the online eligibility questions. The wizard identifies which exemptions may fit and which documents to upload. Partial disabled-veteran, trust, heir, surviving-spouse, and other special situations receive individual review before payment.
Still stuck after checking the guide?
You can save and return using your private resume link. For a question the guide does not answer, send a support request. Phone help is available at (210) 316-6953.
Age 65 or older exemption: what to know before filing
What does the over-65 exemption provide in 2026?
Qualified homeowners age 65 or older receive an additional $60,000 school district exemption, on top of the $140,000 general homestead exemption. These amounts reduce taxable value; they are not a cash payment or a guarantee that every property tax bill becomes zero.
Official sourceCan I apply if my general homestead is already on file?
Yes. An existing general homestead does not establish that your age-based benefit is recorded. Confirm your date of birth and the property’s exemption record, then use Form 50-114 to request the additional benefit if needed.
Official sourceCan I claim both the age-65 and disabled-person additions?
You cannot receive both of those additions from the same taxing unit in the same year. Tell us about both qualifications so the application can be reviewed correctly. Veteran exemptions have separate rules.
Official sourceWhat should I have ready?
Have your property account, ownership and occupancy dates, date of birth, and Texas driver’s license or state ID ready. Address exceptions, surviving-spouse claims, prior years, and transfers receive individual review before payment through our service.
