Common Myths

"Lowering my appraised value will hurt my home's sale price."

Reality: What a buyer pays and what BCAD says your home is worth are two completely different numbers. Buyers look at comps, condition, and location, not your county appraisal. In 4 recent San Antonio sales, BCAD was off by an average of $94,000. See real examples ->

"If I protest or file for homestead, the county will come inspect my house."

Reality: BCAD does not send inspectors to your home because you protested. They appraise over 700,000 properties, and they do not have the staff or authority to retaliate against individual filers. Protesting is your legal right under Texas Tax Code Section 41.41.

"Protesting could actually raise my taxes."

Reality: Filing a protest cannot increase your appraised value for that tax year. Texas law prohibits it. The worst case is your value stays the same, and you owe us nothing.
